CDC Updated Cleaning Guidelines. Again.

It doesn’t look like Covid-19 is going anywhere, much to all of our disappointment. With the Delta variant running rampant and lower-than-hoped vaccination rates, the CDC has re-upped some of their recommended cleaning procedures. Much of this will sound familiar, but you do want to be aware that special cleanings may be required if an employee or customer who has been in your facility tests positive for Covid-19.

So when do you need to do that extra thorough cleaning and disinfection? The CDC offers 3 guidelines.

If someone in your facility tests positive for Covid-19…

...in the last 24 hours, you must do a thorough cleaning and disinfection.

...in the last 48 hours, a thorough cleaning is recommended but any additional disinfection is optional.

...in the last 72 hours, you can follow your usual cleaning procedures.

As a reminder, these are a few Covid-19 specific cleaning procedures you want to make sure your staff is implementing:

  • Wait as long as possible before entering the area and use fans, HVAC, and open windows to increase air circulation.
  • Your cleaning staff should be wearing masks and gloves.
  • Ensure your cleaning products are on the  EPA List N (i.e. known to kill the Covid-19 virus)

Next Steps

One of the best ways to reduce risks in these situations is education. Make sure your cleaning staff is well-versed on these procedures, as well as on how to protect themselves. If your team is already stretched thin or doesn’t have the resources to level up their cleaning procedures, you may want to seek an on-demand cleaning service.

GreenClean’s well-trained staff uses a touch-free machine fog disinfectant to rid spaces of Covid-19 without anyone having to touch the contaminated surfaces. If you’re looking for that extra layer of protection, reach out!
